Flu Benefits

 28.3.10

I'm sick. I haven't been this sick in a LONG time.

I've got every symptom out there.

It sucks. Seriously.

Adair is taking great care of both me and EZ. Luckily EZ isn't sick. Just me.

So far I'm down 4lbs! So that's a plus.

The other benefit is gratuitous use of my brand-new leopard print Snuggie.

I wouldn't be able to make it through this flu without it.

Luckily I'm feeling a bit better. I'm moved to the couch today, instead of lying in my bed writhing in pain. The couch at least offers sitting up, and better entertainment. Although I was definitely becoming a rockstar on the UNO app on my iPhone.

10 things I've learned this week

 23.3.10

1. Your bluetooth will hang up on you if you yell at it.

2. My neighbourhood is safe. You {or Adair} can leave the car running - with the keys in the ignition for 45 mins in the morning - and it doesn't get stolen.

3. Sometimes you've got to watch your back. Even with people you think you know and trust.

4. My house will run out of hot water - eventually.

5. March break traffic is simply terrific.

6. Bikini waxes hurt. Terribly.

7. Waking up early is easy. Going to bed is hard.

8. Stress makes my hair fall out.

9. I heart my amazing girlfriends.

10. My family is amazing. Nothing is more important than my family.

Saturday Morning Laundry - my lil' helpers

 18.3.10

"Mounds of laundry don't amuse me. But I'll help anyway since most of it is mine."

"Anything else in here, mum? Lemme check."

"I think I'll just hang out on the pillows, if that's alright with you."

"Gotta find my socks - they're in here somewhere!"

"Whew, I'm so tired now mum. I need a refreshment break."

Helping hands!

 16.3.10

EZ likes to busy himself. His napping has fallen by the way-side {well, has at least become less consistent}, and he's taken to running all the day long.

I think I mentioned before that he likes to walk around with the broom. I like to pretend that he thinks it's a hockey stick or a golf club.

Well yesterday, while we were cleaning out my parents planters on their front porch, he picked up the dustpan and started to help clean up.

The results were ridiculously cute.

Sick mummy's guide to taking photos of her baby

 15.3.10

I woke up with a cold/flu on Sunday morning. Ick. After church, I got into my "jammie jams" and rested on the couch with a blanket and water.

EZ was being his wonderfully, charming and adorable self, so I couldn't resist snapping a few shots.

I was too tired to move, so all these photos are taken from my vantage point on the couch.

I'm just a sick mummy, not a lazy mummy. No judgment.

Trying out Hipstamatic on my iPhone

 9.3.10

If EZ wants to be cool, I guess we gotta start him young by taking cool Hipstamatic pics on my iPhone. This kid is gorgeous, don't you think?

EZ is 14 months today

Our little guy is growing right before our eyes.

I now understand when parents say kids grow too fast. In the last month, there have been amazing changes with EZ. This kid is growing up.

Here's a list of EZ's current favourite things:
  • Singing and chatting with us in the car. He's stringing together multiple syllables, just like he's having a conversation.
  • French bread. Whole wheat.
  • The Letter "B" - and everything that begins with "B" {ie. ball, bottle, broom, bear etc.}
  • Music. Kindermusik classes. His wooden drum, chimeballs, and jingle sticks. Oh, and Lady Gaga - particularly Bad Romance.
  • Running. Especially running to kick the ball.
  • Opening doors.
  • Sesame Street & The Wiggles.
  • Reading in his orange chair in his room.
  • Colouring pretty pictures for mum & dad.
  • Chasing Ginger up the stairs. Also feeding Ginger her treats.
  • Playing at the park and going for walks to get the mail.
  • His new Horse-y harness, so he can roam a bit freer when we're out {More deets to come in another post}.

Master Bedroom Updates

 7.3.10

Since getting our new house last year, there are about a million little things that we need to do to make it *just perfect*. It's definitely a work in progress, but I've really learned a few small changes make a big impact.

There's a little nook just before you walk into our ensuite bathroom and we thought this would be a perfect spot for a little desk.

I do have dreams of writing my great book at a desk in my bedroom.

I knew wanted a desk with fancy, curvy legs. I found several desks, but due to budget constraints, I had to keep it recessionista chic. I mean, who wants to drop $500 on a desk anyway?

Here's my budget-friendly solution: I got the "desk" at Ikea - it's a white table top for $20 and the legs were $10 each. So that's $60 altogether. From Bouclair Home, I got the mirror on sale for $30 {I adore anything with peacocks!}, and the small lamp was $25.

I'm also trying to branch out from owls, so I'm giving elephants a try. Kinda goes with our Modern Moroccan theme for our bedroom anyway. Not that there's elephants in Morocco, but Morocco is in Africa - does that count?

A close-up of my fab mirror. So cute! Did I mention that I LOVE peacock feathers?

The final touch on my desk area will be a chair. I need to find the perfect chair. Here's what I dreaming of right now:

---------------------------------------

Next, I wanted to tackle the window coverings in our bedroom. Here's what our window coverings looked like before we moved in.

Dark. Heavy. Drab.

When we moved in, we immediately removed the dark drapes and eventually painted the room. The previous owners painted it a golden taupe colour, but we wanted to really lighten it up.

We painted it White Down from Benjamin Moore.

Then we had to tackle the ugly, nay HIDEOUS blinds.

I think they were trying to match the dark Brazilian hardwood floors. Epic fail. The colour of these blinds is like a purpley, brown eggplant - the colour grade 8 girls use to colour their hair for the first time. ICK.

Here's what the same window looks like after we removed the blinds, and put up some gorgeous drapery. I waited for a sale, so I got the drapery panels 2 for 1! So $60 for each window! {There's another window not pictured :)}. It's hard to tell from this photo, but the drapery is a silvery taupe with a darker gray pattern on it called "Medina" - perfect for our Modern Moroccan theme, no?

This is as far as we've gotten with these area of the master bedroom.
Here's our remaining to-do list:
  • Buy vinyl wall decals: headboard, wall
  • Buy/recover Louis or Bergere style chairs
  • OR buy a BIG CHAISE LOUNGE
  • Buy bigger night table lamps
  • Put in pot lights
  • Buy/create art work
  • Buy a vintage Moroccan wedding blanket
  • Buy desk chair
