Pop of Yellow - or Thank You, Internet!

 17.10.12

I've got to admit that as much as I love Fort McMurray, options for affordable and hip home accessories are minimal.
{I miss Homesense and good thrifting options. }

So to compensate, I've been increasingly turning to online shopping, mostly Etsy. I've neglected the awesomeness of Etsy for too long. But I'm a convert once again.

Etsy is a long-distance shopper's best friend.

I'm excited to share with YOU, my amazing readers, my recent Etsy lovelies for my home! They aren't "installed" in my home yet, but at least I can share my good finds with you.

I know online shopping can be scary...but it's not 1997 anymore. Online shopping, especially when you are living in a remote location, is the best way to bring goodies to you. You do not have to live on Wal-Mart accessories alone {not that there's anything wrong with Wal-Mart, they do have some cool options}.

I think these pillows are absolutely AWESOME. I love the chevron {as you know!}, but the yellow felt flower is just beyond. This pillow hits the mark, so I ordered TWO! They have other colours and combinations, so definitely check out the shop called Bed Buggs Boutique!

I got these two amazing pillow covers for $26! Seriously! I'm using them as outdoor pillows since the fabric is really durable. I love pattern, and the mixing of these two modern fabrics makes me swoon. Yay Designer Pillow Shop -- check them out!

I'm saving the most exciting purchase for last...I'm getting these very cool yellow ikat pattern curtains for my living room! I've had satin nickel grommets added, as well as a liner, so these drapes should be a stunning statement to my living room.  Definitely head to Sew Modish for stylish, yet affordable drapes!

So, enough about me...what amazing online finds have you bought lately?

My Map Art is UP!

 22.11.11

Remember this post when I told you about an amazing new Etsy shop - JennaSue's Map Shop

Well my gorgeous custom modern map art arrived quickly and we finally hung it in my Master bedroom this weekend, above my computer desk. I totally LOVE them! They are very chic.

Do yourself a favour and treat yourself to a cool map for your wall. Please mention that I sent you when you check out!

A close-up of Marrakesh...

A close up of Paris...
Now a word about my photography. Ideally, I'd love to take photos in the natural daylight, but alas, I'm a working Mummy, so I'm not home when the sun is out. Ever. I leave before the sun rises and get home after the sun sets, so my photos aren't in the perfect light. My apologies & thank you for understanding.

Modern Maps & A New Hearted Etsy Shop

 13.11.11

One of my favourite things to do {when not wasting time on Pinterest - follow me here!}, is to peruse good ol' Etsy.com. I kind of banned myself from Etsy for awhile because I would buy something every time I went on!

Recently, however, I've been thinking about how my Master needs art. I'm not an art person. I love art in museums, but I have trouble committing to art in my house. I'm fine with framed photos and mirrors, but art is hard for me to  hang on my walls.

But then I found JennaSue's Map Shop on Etsy -- and I was converted. I fell in LOVE with the simple modern elegance of the line drawn maps. I ordered TWO maps - Paris and then a custom-made map of Marrakesh! Perfect for my Modern Moroccan Master bedroom!

She even had the proof of the Marrakesh map done within a day of ordering! AMAZING!

I can't wait to receive them!

Be sure to check out JennaSue's wonderful Etsy shop and add a bit of art to your life!

How can you tell I'm from Northern Ontario?

 23.3.11

Because I purchased this very cool Moose head trophy!

Yes, it's cardboard.  And it's very chic. Trust me.

You can hate it and still love me.  It's ok.

I've seen similar trophy heads sell for $200-300, so this little gem with such a cool factor for a mere $28 - sign me up!

Aviva - Month Two

 6.2.11

Little A @ 2 months...adorable with her new felt headband from this Etsy shop, and her Coach-esque onesie set from Carters.  Coach should make a kids line - Baby Coach or Coach-ette or something.

I should write to them to suggest it. I could be a millionaire!

Sleepy Little A...taking photos is tiring!

Dollar Store Project

 21.1.11

Remember how I told you that Little A's room isn't yet finished. Well, that's still true, but I've completed another art project that I want to share, and it has to do with the wall with Aviva's name on it.

This art cost me: $3 for 3 frames + $10 in art + $3 for printing. Yep - $16 for this very cool project.

I found UGLY Dollar Store frames {3 for $3 each!} - the ugliest most ornate ones I could find - then spray painted them a glossy black.

I then purchased pretty digital files from this Etsy store, and had them printed at Walmart.  This is the final result!

Pretty fancy if I do say so myself!

A Day in the life of Mummy on Vacation

 5.7.10

Today was my 1st day of being home all day with EZ (solo, no less!). We had a fun day today.

EZ woke up around 7:30am, then we played with his toys until it was time for breakfast. Breakfast was organic mini blueberry waffles, plain Balkan yogurt, and milk.

After breakfast, we got dressed, put on our sunscreen and played outside. But it was 40 degrees by 9am this morning, which makes playing outside pretty unbearable. We managed okay though because we had lots of ice water.

After playing, we went to the post office to send a letter, then did groceries. The grocery store was FULL of mommies and their children. EZ had lots of smiles for everyone. We got lots of delicious, summery food.

When we got home, EZ was VERY helpful with unloading the groceries. He quickly realized he couldn't carry the bags, so he'd grab one item and bring it to me. He brought me the bananas, yogurt, and apples all by himself. I hope this helpfulness continues...

We had a quick lunch of chicken quesadillas with cherries for dessert, then watched Sesame Street (2nd episode today), then it was time for a nap. I probably I should've had a nap too, but instead I watched the Food Network and House Hunters on HGTV, all while I cut up veggies and fruit. It inspired me to consider buying an apron. I've been wanting a classic full apron for awhile, but the ones in the stores are hideous -- not the vintage chic I'm going for.

So I looked on etsy.com {my favourite website!} and found some very cute, fun, and chic aprons.

This is the one I ended up buying. It has Mid Century Modern furniture on it! SO ME!!!

I also loved this lemon one, which combined with the Italian cooking show I watched this afternoon, inspired our dinner - Spaghetti a limone. So delicious! I even used fresh basil from our garden. Now if I only lived on the Amalfi coast and had a lemon tree in my backyard!

EZ has also been very helpful in doing laundry and dishes today. He likes to pass me the clean dishes, one by one, to put away.

We're waiting for our friend to come by to go for a walk tonight. Maybe we'll go for ice cream to try to beat the heat!
