Snapshots from Turkey Weekend...ahem..Tofu Weekend!

 17.10.11

Here are some photos from Thanksgiving weekend! EZ had a BLAST visiting his Great-Grandma. Her house is SO fun to play in - but especially with his COUSINS! His cousins are a little older than EZ, but they are SO patient with him and I think they love playing with him too :)

Granddad drove up arrived just in time for Thanksgiving dinner. But before we sat down to eat, he wanted to take advantage of the exceptionally good weather and go to the lake to feed the ducks. As he turned out, the gulls were quicker & more aggressive than the little duckies, but we had fun all the same!

When his cousins went out for lunch, EZ was also able to have fun playing on his own!

I'm not sure why, but I didn't take any shots of our Thanksgiving meal as a family. Many of you were asking me how my 1st Vegan Thanksgiving turned out, so here's the story. I had brought ALL my ingredients up to my grandma's house in preparation for cooking my own Thanksgiving feast, but as it turned out, we ran out of time and I wasn't able to cook what I planned. Big A made a delicious pumpkin soup & I enjoyed eating that soup with sweet potatoes, veggies, hummus & pita for the big dinner.

It was a great lesson for me in that being Vegan isn't hard AT ALL. And I find something to eat anywhere I go. It doesn't have to be a big production ALL of the time :) -- even for big Holiday Celebrations like Thanksgiving!

Once we got home and settled, Big A suggested I make my own Thanksgiving feast - and so I did!

I made the most DELICIOUS walnut loaf using the recipe from the amazing  Oh She Glows Thanksgiving Menu. It was out of this WORLD! We also had vegan mashed potatoes & veggies.

So no TOFU in sight! Haha!

Walnut Loaf is going in the oven...

But first it needs a GLAZE!

Kitchen Makeover Update - Day 3?

 15.9.11

We had a busy day here!  When EZ came home he remarked that Daddy broke the kitchen!

He's right and this is PROGRESS! Cabinet fronts are off, some had to be removed completely for installed under-cabinet lighting, the fridge is out of place, and there is debris everywhere!

Big A has sprayed some cabinet doors and they look awesome! So glad we built the big shelves in the basement because we need them for this project! The cabinet doors need a good drying place.

We also had to pick grout today for the new backsplash tile {remember the tile I got from Costco?}. I imagined it would be an agonizing process like it is on tv, but we found the right colour straight away.  Well, I hope! We shall see in the days ahead :)
Tonight Big A picked up a tile saw we're borrowing from a friend, so fingers crossed, we'll have some progress on that front soon too!  We're thinking about tiling right over the existing backsplash? Crazy? Smart? Who knows, but it's my idea so I'll have to take the fall if it's an epic fail! Haha!

Family Weekend Redux

 1.8.11

This past long weekend we traveled to the wonderful city of Montreal to a visit with Big A's family. We had a great time {but I forgot my camera!}; we indulged in delicious local cuisine {macarons, croissants & poutine!}; visited the Biodome, the Musee des Beaux-Arts for the Jean Paul Gauthier exhibit, soaked in the ambiance of the Old Port, and enjoyed all the beauties this amazing city offered.

I realized my French is non-existent little bit rusty, so I think I want to take French lessons. Or at least download a "Learn to Speak French" app on my iPad :)  I need to brush up on French for our trip to Paris {which IS going to happen! we just need to win the lottery first...but you gotta play to win, and we don't play! I think I need a new plan of how to make this Paris trip happen!}.
